Dogs, even avid hunters, learn surprisingly easily that they shouldn't touch other animals in the same house. The most inveterate koshen-haters, who, despite any punishments, continue to chase cats in the garden, not to mention the street, easily learn not to encroach on cats or other animals in the house. Therefore, I always introduce dogs to newly purchased animals in my office.

Why the dog within the walls of the house becomes less bloodthirsty, I do not know, but one thing is certain: inside the house, only her passion for hunting, but not for fights, fades away. All of my dogs were very aggressive with any stranger dog that dared to enter our rooms. I have not had the opportunity to check these observations on other dogs, since in principle I do not take my dogs with me when they go to friends who have a dog in their house. I am guided by simple delicacy, and not only because dog fights unnerve most people (I myself take them calmly, since my dogs usually take the upper hand), but also because the appearance of a foreign representative of his species in his possession causes a reaction unpleasant for the mistress of the house. In dogs, lifting a leg has a perfectly clear meaning - paradoxically, exactly the same as a nightingale song. This is a way to mark the boundaries of your site, warning all strangers that they are invading territory that already belongs to someone.

Almost all mammals put odorous marks on their sites, since the air there is already saturated with its own smell and the smell of its owners. But if someone else's dog or - even worse - a long-known sworn enemy crosses the threshold even for a few seconds, the inhibiting influence of all these moments immediately disappears. In this case, any not entirely spineless dog will consider it its sacred duty to destroy the smell of the enemy, leaving its more odorous sign. To the indignation of its owner (and especially the mistress), this neat indoor dog will go around the house, shamelessly lifting a leg at every roof, chair or cabinet. Think about it before you decide to visit a dog owner accompanied by your dog!

Thus, the peacefulness of a dog in its own home ensures the safety of potential prey only, not other dogs. Perhaps here we are faced with an eternal and widespread behavior in the animal world, or rather, a prohibition. It is known that hawks and other birds of prey do not hunt near their nest. In the immediate vicinity of their nests, nests of wood pigs with fully fledged chicks have been found more than once; there is confirmed information that shelled ducklings bred ducklings in inhabited fox holes. Wolves have been reported not to touch fallow deer raising their offspring in the vicinity of their den. It seems to me quite possible that it is precisely this age-old law of "truce" that explains why our domestic dog at home behaves so restrainedly with a variety of animals.

However, this prohibition is not absolute, and strong measures of influence are required so that a young dog, full of strength and also a gambling hunter, understands that a cat, badger, wild rabbits, mice and other animals, with which it must henceforth share the attention of its owner, not only are not intended for food, but are untouchable, sacred and generally taboo! It is forever engraved in my memory how many years ago I brought home our first kitten (it was Thomas I) and tried to convince my dog Bully, an avid cat hunter, that he should leave the baby alone. When I took the kitten out of the basket, Bully rushed to me, filled with joyful anticipation - he squealed in a special bass, howling, which he did only on rare occasions, and the swiftly wagging stump of his tail almost turned into a vague strip. Of course Bully had no doubtsthat I brought the kitten especially for him, so that he dealt with him in his own way. His confidence was based on some grounds, since in the past I more than once presented him with old teddy bears or ragdogs for reprisal, because he tormented his prey very funny. But now, much to Bully's disappointment, I made it quite clear to him that he should not touch the kitten in any case. Bully was an unusually kind and obedient dog, and I was not afraid that he would disregard my order and still attack the kitten. Therefore, I did not intervene when he approached the baby and sniffed him carefully, although the dog was literally trembling with excitement, and the smooth, glossy coat on the shoulders and neck - where the mane should have stood - ominously darkened and faded. Bulli did not touch the kitten, but continued to look back at me from time to time with a bass squeal, twirl his tail like an electric fan blade, and dance on all four legs. In this way, he begged me to quickly allow him to start the desired game - to chase this wonderful toy, grab it and shake it so that it no longer moves. But I continued to answer more and more categorically "No!", Shaking my index finger, and in the end he looked at me as if he doubted the soundness of my mind, lowered his ears, let out the deepest breath that a French bulldog is capable of, jumped on sofa and curled up in a ball. From that moment on, he simply stopped noticing the kitten, and on the same day I left them alone for a very long time, knowing that I could rely on my dog. However, this did not mean at allthat Bully's desire to kill the kitten was completely extinguished. On the contrary, every time I dealt with the kitten, and especially when I took him in my arms, Buli's indifference immediately disappeared and he rushed to me, desperately twirling his tail and pounding his paws so that the floor trembled. At the same time, he looked at me with the same expression of intensely blissful anticipation that illuminated his face when he was exhausted from hunger, and I brought a bowl with still cold food into the room.and I brought into the room a bowl of still cold food.and I brought into the room a bowl of still cold food.
