The dog learns the daily routine, and it has the ability, similar to the human, to determine the time of occurrence of certain events.
Unfortunately, we do not know how accurately these "internal clocks" of an animal work in favorable circumstances. In my family, the taxes determined the time of arrival of the head of the family for breakfast with an accuracy of 20 minutes. They calculated my return home for dinner far less accurately and reacted more to when my family was waiting for me. The dachshund mother had an interesting feature: almost every evening, two hours after lunch, she called my wife to make coffee. She did it this way: she looked intently at her wife and, if this was not enough, she began to bark. Moreover, it was not hunger that prompted her to do this, but rather tradition and sometimes ordinary greed - suddenly something will fall on her. In essence, the dog was not interested in the gathering of household members, but in the established ritual.
The dogs asked for an evening walk regardless of whether physiology prompted them to do so, because sometimes they managed to recover even during an unscheduled exit to the yard. Just a walk for them is an interesting activity in any case. When we talk about the ability of a dog to accurately predict events, it must be remembered that we ourselves unwittingly become for animals the correct signals of the upcoming action.
