Non-shedding dog breeds - Poodles, Bedlington and Kerry Blue Terriers - are trimmed regularly, and Schnauzers and Wire-haired Terriers are trimmed. The purpose of such procedures is primarily hygienic, in addition, for these breeds there is a special standard that provides for the treatment of the dog's coat in the prescribed form. Cutting and trimming is a difficult and painstaking business, it is impossible to learn it in a few hours. Therefore, it is better for an amateur to consult a specialist.

For a haircut, you need to purchase two pairs of scissors: one straight and long, with sharp ends, others short, with rounded ends; a comb with metal teeth; a brush for combing wool; a hair clipper - mechanical or electric with different attachments. A mechanical clipper is more difficult to cut, but it does not bother the dog, the electric clipper heats up and hums, so the dog treats it with fear.
For a haircut, it is better to equip a table with a non-slip surface on which the dog can stand quietly; the most comfortable table height is 75 cm.
Styles of haircuts and trimming for each breed change from year to year in some detail, so anyone who has decided to seriously engage in showing his dog at exhibitions needs to follow the fashion. In general terms, all styles are intended to highlight the most beautiful forms of a given breed, on the other hand, haircuts and trimming allow you to hide or smooth out some of the dog's flaws.
Carefully combing the coat, the dog is washed and dried. Depending on the standard, some dogs are dried by constantly brushing the coat with a wire brush or a comb immediately after washing, while others are brushed only after the coat is dry. And one more thing: if you nevertheless started a breed that requires a haircut, but you do not know how to cut it yourself and you have no one to ask for it, then you should at least once a year shave the dog's head off (better, of course, by summer) than constantly see it matted and unkempt wool.

Poodle haircuts are very diverse. This is a champion among dog breeds for the abundance of hairstyles. The curly thick coat of the poodle, which grows evenly on all parts of the body, allows you to give it the most bizarre shapes. At exhibitions, it is customary to evaluate two main haircuts: classic (under the lion) and modern. For young dogs, there is a simplified version of the puppy haircut, when, in essence, only the paws and muzzle are cut short, and the hat is also slightly trimmed. Haircuts in recent years usually provide for a very short-cropped face; in the past, poodles were left with a mustache and even a beard. The cap on the head can be trimmed detached from the ears, or trimmed in a crown-like fashion with the ears. With a classic haircut, regardless of its version, the front part of the dog is more voluminous, the neck and chest are fused into a single whole, like a lion. On the legs, wool can be cut off, leaving only pom-poms below,or cut with "pants". If "pants" are not left on the hind legs, then spiral pom-poms can be cut there. The modern haircut (Art Nouveau) is more subordinate to the natural forms of the poodle, the shortest hair on the face, at the base of the neck, back and at the waist. On the tail, with any haircut, a ball is left traditional for a poodle.
At present very rare corded poodles, only the muzzle and legs are cut short, the rest of the coat must be pulled into long uniform cords.
Two terrier breeds that are only sheared, the Kerry Blue Terrier and the Bedlington Terrier, also have a uniform coat structure. In the Kerry Blue Terrier, the length of the head is emphasized as much as possible due to the bangs, mustache and beard, the ears, forehead, cheekbones, throat, and the lower side of the neck are cut short. Otherwise, due to gradual transitions from one coat length to another, they emphasize the square format and slenderness of the dog, the well-defined angles of the hocks, the stressed top line.
The Bedlington Terrier is the most unusual of the terrier group. Soft, sheared wool in light colors gives it a great lamb-like appearance. A characteristic oval crest on the head, an arched line of the back, a laterally thickened body with a tucked-in belly, tassels on the ears - these are the main features of the appearance of this breed. Bedlington should embody lightness and grace.

The basic principles (I even perceive this as a kind of philosophy or art of grooming), that is, what and how to bathe and dry, are the same for all breeds of dogs. But there are many nuances depending on the type of coat.If the dog is long-haired, with hair that quickly falls into mats, which must be combed often and almost always cut (cocker, poodle, kerry blue terrier, shih tzu), then handlers consider the ideal frequency of bathing for a domestic dog of this breed once eve

From the point of view of hair care, four groups of dog breeds can be distinguished. In the first place in terms of the complexity of preparation for the exhibition are dogs whose hair is sheared or plucked: poodles, terriers, schnauzers and cocker spaniels

It is a pity that I cannot demonstrate to you the treatment directly on the dog - we live a little far away, I will simply try to explain it more clearly and in more detail. By the way, a book (or rather a brochure) by Yerusalimsky was published several years ago
