Proper maintenance and nutrition forms the basis for a dog's health. In order for the cocker to be healthy, the owner must not forget about special dog prevention. So, for example, long cocker ears create the whole problem. They prevent foreign bodies from entering the external auditory canal, but they also prevent normal ventilation of the ear, which can cause inflammation in the ears.

To prevent inflammation, the ears must be cleaned every week, since inflammation occurs due to the accumulation and decomposition of earwax, when parasites are introduced and when cold water gets into the ear. Signs are visible immediately the dog shakes his head, rubs his ear with his paw, when pressed, you hear a gurgling, an unpleasant smell is felt. Treatment begins with the mechanical removal of secretions using cotton swabs. The procedure is repeated until the cotton wool remains clean. If inflammation has begun, then the treatment process is usually long and must be supervised by a doctor.

The cocker's eyes should also be the object of constant attention. They usually form mucus after sleep. It is removed with a clean gauze swab or a linen cloth. Cotton wool or paper towels irritate the mucous membranes. Blepharitis and conjunctivitis can be caused by draft, dust or bright sun, or by internal diseases. Signs are manifested in redness of the edges of the eyelids, in the appearance of scales and crusts, in the loss of eyelashes, in lacrimation, in the outflow of purulent discharge, in swelling of the conjunctiva. To soften, you need to rub a synthomycin emulsion, instill eye drops into the conjunctival sacs. Of course, all this is done on the advice of a doctor. You can also spray your eyes with strong tea.

To care for your teeth, you can offer the cocker to gnaw crackers, hard vegetables. But if the teeth are still yellow, you can clean with chalk and a cloth. When calculus forms, once or twice a week, you should wipe your teeth with a cotton swab soaked in 3% hydrogen peroxide or tomato paste. Tartar is a hard, tenacious plaque composed of salts and food debris that, especially in older dogs, causes a putrid-smelling inflammation and can lead to root suppuration and loss of teeth.

In case of lameness, the first step is to examine the paw. Tangled hair between the pads is carefully trimmed away as it gets in the way of the dog like a rock in your boot. If the dog is hurt, carefully remove the object (glass shard, thorn) with tweezers. The paw is disinfected and bandaged; in more difficult cases, consult a doctor.

Probably, every dog owner was not immune to the anxiety about the health of his pet. Sometimes the disease begins suddenly and acutely. And sometimes its initial signs are barely noticeable or worsening was followed by improvement. The owner is calm, and meanwhile the disease develops in a latent form. When it reappears, it turns out that the time has passed.

But before talking about the signs of the disease, let's remember what a healthy dog looks like

First of all, as soon as the dog wakes up, he will usually shake himself, stretch and run up to you cheerfully. Its coat is close to the skin and is thick and shiny. Usually, a dog sheds twice a year, but a sick dog may shed all the time. True, this trait does not apply to the cocker, since he, even being in full health, changes his coat all year round. Unexpressed seasonal molting periods sometimes cause dissatisfaction with those who value the ideal cleanliness of the apartment above all else. Therefore, if the wool on the carpet can also cause a bad mood for you, do not get a cocker, so that he does not appear to be guilty in the role without guilt!

A healthy dog has shiny, without purulent discharge and not reddened eyes, the nose is wet, cold, although immediately after waking it can be warm and dry. Breathing is even, natural, without coughing and wheezing. The stomach works well.

If you notice something amiss or the dog starts to vomit or diarrhea, then take the temperature. Normally, it should be in the range of 38-39.5 degrees. If it is raised, do not hesitate and wait for the temperature to drop by itself. It can be a sign of a serious infectious disease.

It is hardly worth listing all the signs of various diseases here. Let us dwell only on an ailment, especially often affecting puppies - diarrhea. Sometimes it is just a sudden change in diet that can cause it. It should be recalled here that the new food should be added to the puppy's diet one at a time, then it is easy to establish what exactly the puppy does not tolerate.

Diarrhea can also be caused by colds, worms, teething, or infection. So it is very important to find the cause and start treatment immediately.

For non-infectious diarrhea, puppies usually heal quickly with simple remedies, such as activated charcoal, flaxseed decoction, or rice. But if the digestive upset is severe, an infection may be the cause. If the discharge has a foul-smelling, very unpleasant odor, or if traces of mucus or blood are found, you should immediately call a veterinarian.

The doctor, of course, will tell you what to give to a sick puppy. But even before his visit, you should completely stop feeding the sick puppy. But you need to give a lot of drinking water to prevent dehydration.

Never try to self-medicate. In any case, if the dog seems unhealthy, it is necessary to see a doctor.
