"Mom, buy a kitten!" Many parents hear a similar request-demand from their children. Instead of a kitty, a dog, a hamster, and less often a bird can appear. But in any case, the meaning of the child's request does not change: he wants an animal to appear in the house. It doesn't matter if he has a lot of toys. Even if there are few of them and parents are trying to seduce their child with some fashionable novelty in the gaming industry instead of Murka or Bug, the little man often remains adamant.
Then the adult side resorts to pressure to make him give up the desire to have any pet. As a motivation, they usually cite the potential danger that cats and dogs pose to a child's health - fleas, worms and "any infection in general." The forces in such a conflict are too unequal, and therefore children rarely manage to insist on their own.
It would seem that nothing terrible happened. The kid will twist and forget. But nothing will threaten his health. And there will be no hassle with keeping an animal in the house. In fact, without suspecting it, by their refusal to get a murk or a bug, child-loving parents harm the child's health. And first of all, the mental, that is, the psyche so vulnerable at a young age.
Let's try to figure out why at some stage in children - some at seven, others at ten, and still others at twelve - there is a desire for close communication with pets.
There is an opinion that this is just a whim of modern children, fed up with entertainment, who want to get a "living toy", and having achieved their goal, they quickly lose interest in it. However, practice shows that this is not the case at all. More often, a cat or a dog that has settled in an apartment is pushing into the background even the favorite toys of far from spoiled children. And how kids are drawn to street Murkas and Bugs during walks, despite the strictest prohibitions of mothers and grandmothers! Therefore, they are driven not just by the desire to have fun, but by some stronger inner impulse.
Religious philosophers explained this phenomenon in a completely different way. After birth, a child lives with a pure, sinless soul, not noticing the sinfulness of the world around him. When he grows up a little and this world begins to open up to him, his soul revolts. She longs for communication with creatures that are not characterized by anger, envy, meanness, selfishness. For they are capable of giving the little man much-needed spiritual comfort and support. And then the child says to the parents: "I want a kitty!" or "Buy me a dog!"

Psychologists adhere to a similar point of view. As James Serpell, who led animal ecology research at the University of Cambridge, emphasizes, for those who are constantly in close contact with pets, they provide a kind of emotional support that is sometimes lacking even in relationships between members of the same family, not to mention single people. Moreover, our children often practically become such “lonely people, since parents are so busy with business that they do not have time for their children. According to the scientist, this support can be considered a real psychotherapy, which has a clear mechanism of action.
“Paradoxical as it may seem, Serpell writes, “the dumbness of moors and bugs is an advantage, not a disadvantage. Indeed, in the process of communication for a person, it is important not only what he hears, but also how he is listened to. Therefore, the fact that pets listen and seem to understand us, but do not ask questions or make judgments, may be their most enjoyable quality as companions."
All this is even more true for children. Indeed, often adults, without realizing it themselves, with their angry reprimands, shouts, critical remarks - "How many times have you been told!..", "You again!..", "Don't bother yourself with nonsense!" - hurt the child's soul, cause him stress. But our psyche is designed in such a way that a person cannot be held captive by negative emotions for a long time. And the child instinctively looks for a way out for them, for example, in crying. Meanwhile, communication with an animal would be much more useful in such cases. By stroking his pet, it doesn't matter - a cat or a dog, he gets psychological relaxation and support.
The very presence of an animal in the house already creates an atmosphere of psychological comfort for the child, since they cause positive emotions in him. These emotions stimulate the production of "pleasure hormones", which, in turn, create favorable conditions for the brain to function. An interesting experience in this regard was carried out in America. In the course of the study, 36 children aged 9 to 16 years old who had dogs read aloud a complex text once in the presence of their beetles, the second time without them. In the first case, their blood pressure and pulse rate were significantly lower. This suggests that their dogs are an anti-stress factor for children.
However, the presence of a cat or dog in the house can play an important role in correcting the psyche and behavior of children with deviations from the norm. In families with one child, parents often complain of his increased excitability, moodiness, and sometimes hysterical breakdowns. The standard advice of doctors in such cases is short: there is no need to pamper the child.
In fact, this is not the reason at all. Even if he is not pampered, he is still constantly the object of increased attention from family members. The words and actions of the child are always in sight and therefore are subjected to meticulous analysis, although the adults themselves do not think about it. And it doesn't matter if they admire the baby or, conversely, scold. Equally bad, and that, and another such "test of glory" can be unbearable for the still fragile psyche and lead to nervous disorders.
Once you get a cat or a dog, some of the family's attention inevitably shifts to the pet, even if the parents don't realize it. It will, as it were, overshadow the child, drawing away the excess attention of adults. And the positive effect of the presence of a Bug or Murka will not be long in coming. In addition, they will be excellent anti-stress companions for the baby himself.
But pets are able to provide children not only with psychotherapeutic assistance. Currently, a new direction of treatment with energy-informational influence is rapidly developing in medicine. In this case, electromagnetic waves of extremely high frequency and ultra-low intensity are used, which cause a positive resonance in the human body.
As a source of corrective radiation, special equipment is used and … the hands of bioenergy therapists, as they are now called, psychics. But both the cat and the dog, sitting on the lap or near the owner, also irradiate him with their electromagnetic waves. Therefore, it is possible that their frequencies can enter into resonance with human frequencies and thus eliminate energy failures. At the VII International Conference on the Problems of Human-Animal Interaction in Geneva, which was attended by more than 600 scientists and medical practitioners, many cases were cited when constant communication with animals, and therefore their inevitable energetic impact, healed people. Here is one of them.
Even in early childhood, doctors discovered an incurable disease in the French girl Perl - progressive muscular dystrophy, due to which she could not even stand. Deprived of a normal childhood, the girl suffered not only physically, but also spiritually. Although she was surrounded by loving parents, older brother and sister, who tried in every possible way to brighten up the life of a little disabled person, she closed in on herself, almost constantly was in a state of deep depression. Moreover, doctors began to fear that in the end the child's psyche could be irreversibly traumatized.
Her mother, Madame Nicole, decided at all costs to save her daughter. She turned to the National Dog Training Association to help people with disabilities. After training on special courses, since it was she who was to work with the dog, Madame Nicole brought home her future four-legged assistant Fistulik.
The child and the dog slept together, ate, walked, played and … worked. The individual program, drawn up by doctors, veterinarians, psychologists and educators, required perseverance, desire and, most importantly, patience from all its participants. The painstaking, day after day, work of the girl Perl and the dog Fistulik under the guidance of Madame Nicole began to bear fruit. Dr. Duhamel of the Cannes Clinical Center, observing the little patient, wrote a few months later: "Since the dog came into the house, Perl has made significant progress in her condition." And finally the day came when the girl stood on her own legs. The treatment is not over yet. There is reason to hope that there will be a significant improvement in Pearl's health.
… In conclusion, one piece of advice. If your child really wants to have a cat or dog, take his request seriously. Weigh all the pros and cons and try not to deprive the little man of the much-needed communication with a living creature that no toys can replace.
