The first rule about feline aggression is: never hit your cat! It can help you to “blow off steam”, but it will not help in any way to re-educate the cat - she will only enjoy showing you teeth and claws at the most unpredictable times.

Fear and pain can make your cat attack you. The best way to deal with a frightened cat is to simply leave it alone, and if it is sick, then, of course, the help of a veterinarian is required. Most of the time we see a cat behaving badly, we should remember that this is only part of her character. We can change this behavior if we understand what is behind it and act accordingly. Below are the reasons that make cats literally "go crazy", as well as ways to eliminate them.

Overexcitement. Imagine petting your cat and suddenly it grabs you with its teeth and claws. It's not a real attack, but it still leaves scratches on your hands. What to do? Do not try to retaliate against the cat, it can only provoke a real bite. Sometimes just hitting the table with your hand is enough to shock the cat and distract it from the attack. If you stay calm while doing this, your cat will likely calm down as well and stop attacking you.

This is a way out of the situation if you have already been attacked. But the best solution is to understand your cat's language and stop stroking it before it gets overexcited. Cat lovers often think that such attacks happen without warning, but in reality, they just miss the warning signs that their cats are showing. Usually the first sign is the tail. If your cat starts to twitch its tail convulsively, it's time to stop petting or switch to relaxing activities. Stroking the tummy is great for dogs, but not for cats. Instead of stroking your cat's sensitive belly, scratch just behind the ears or at the base of the tail.

Aggression in the game. In play, cats often hurt us by attacking our legs. Instead of punishing your cat, redirect her energy. Extend your cat play sessions by using an appropriate toy, such as a fishing rod or rope toy, to help the cat use up its energy before stroking it.

Remember not to let your cat treat you as one of their toys, even if she is still an adorable kitten. Never fight your cat or kitten with your bare hands, because this is a bad example for her. A rag-filled sock is a great replacement for your hand, which turns into a fun toy by being scratched, biting and pushing from the cat's side, freeing it of excess energy.

But what if the cat still sees you as its toy? As with an overexcited cat, just stop. Don't give her a reason to continue attacking. You can also inform her that it is not permissible to attack you by spraying with water from a spray bottle. A loud shout can also help.

Redirected aggression. Imagine your cat seeing another cat on the street from a window. He starts to get angry. At this time, you enter the room, and he begins to scratch you. What's happening? You have just become a victim of redirected aggression.

This is a rather difficult case. First, you should prevent other people's cats from walking around your yard. You can install a special horn to scare them away. Again, you need to understand your cat's language. If you see that your cat is angry, it is best to try to leave him alone.

In general, when dealing with feline aggression in general, it is important to eliminate its triggers and influence your cat's tolerance levels. If you are patient and consistent, your cat will improve its behavior over time. If you succumb to temptation and beat your pet, you will end up with an even more aggressive pet that will panic towards you. In this matter, it is very important to adhere to non-violent methods of education.
