Recently, cases of allergies, or allergic reactions, developing and the body of cats, manifested by pathologies of the skin and coat, are not uncommon. Often cats are brought to the veterinarian, suffering from hairlessness, having limited surface defects, areas of redness or ulcers, which in most cases is accompanied by severe itching, especially on the lower back, muzzle, neck and occipital region. In such cases, we are usually talking about the manifestation of the so-called "antigen-antibody" reactions on the skin.
How can we explain the appearance of food allergies in a cat? Fundamentally, it is necessary to distinguish simply the intolerance of the latter, the allergy provoked by it and another origin, due to multiple factors. It should be noted that not only the food in general, but also a certain protein compound may not be useful for the cat's body.
This applies to both animal and plant protein. Here's an example: the body regulates a rash that causes itching to meet with cow protein. Here, there is a visible clinical symptom of itching, to which the animal reacts immediately, trying to get rid of the irritant. The cat itches - wounds appear on the skin, especially on the head and back of the head. Such a measure of protection as constant licking leads to a real thinning of the skin in different parts of the body (foci of hairlessness in the abdomen are especially noticeable, which can lead to complete baldness). It is not always easy to prove that this is an allergic reaction caused by food, since the veterinarian is limited by the testing possibilities available to modern medicine.
Carrying out therapy also does not give a result in every case, because in case of food allergy, it is necessary to remove not only one antibody-antibody chain, which is registered in the animal's blood. In fact, you can only get rid of allergens through a targeted elimination diet. Appropriate dietary measures are applied therapeutically. The animal should eat only one type of protein for at least 6-8 weeks. But the fact is that things are not going well with cats.
There are two problems here: cats do not eat any food, and most domestic cats usually come into contact with the external environment on a regular basis, so complete control over their nutrition is not always possible. To achieve an effect, accurate registration of the feed dosage is necessary. Allergies, as such, are incurable! However, through the elimination (elimination) of the agent harmful to the body, it is possible to keep the cat in good health.
