The most convenient way to bathe your cat is in the sink, bathtub, where there is a shower or where it can be connected to the water supply. It is best to use a warm shower to soak and rinse the coat. If you are unable to clean the sink well after washing the dishes, bathe your cat in the bathroom.
If you don't have a shower, take two buckets of warm water (for rinsing) and place a small bucket of about 4-6 liters next to it. If there is no sink, a plastic baby bath will do. Cats prefer to feel safe, so place a rubber mat or an old towel where you intend to place the animal.
You will also need a shampoo diluted with warm water, a towel (or hair dryer), and a clean brush and comb. If possible, ask someone to help you.
Cover your pet's ears with small shreds of cotton to keep out water (however, the shreds must be large enough to be removed with your fingers), place a stiff collar around the cat's neck, or bandage tightly (but not very tightly) with gauze so that your helper can restrain the soapy cat if it breaks loose.
Then place the cat in the sink and dampen its fur with water from a shower or pitcher.… In this case, the cat must be firmly held by the scruff or collar and, if it begins to break free, press it down. This is the best way to keep the animal still. Then take the shampoo and rub it over the fur, being careful not to get it in the cat's eyes or mouth. Some medicated shampoos should be left on the coat for 15-20 minutes for the medication to take effect on the skin. Follow the instructions for use strictly. The cat should be handled gently, but in no case should it be allowed to lick the foam from the fur. The coat should then be rinsed with copious amounts of water to rinse off any remaining detergent. Rinse until all the fur is “squeaky” as it is pulled between thumb and forefinger. If the coat is already wet, most cats allow themselves to be immersed in water up to their necks. So for the final rinse, you can fill the sink with water and gently lower the cat into it.
After rinsing, squeeze the wool as tightly as possible and, wrapping the cat in a towel, dry it. Dry the coat as quickly as possible so that the cat's body does not cool down. And in any case, do not let the animal out into the street.
Some cats can be persuaded to “use” the hairdryer, despite the noise it generates. If the cat is intimidated by the hair dryer, towel dry, but don't dry it too vigorously. When drying the fur, comb it against the fur. If you have problems with drying, you can put the cat in a wicker basket and place it under the warm stream of the hair dryer. We repeat: it is very important to dry the cat quickly; this is especially true for short-haired breeds.
