Bathing cats is also a grooming tool, although many animals do not need this - grooming is enough for them. But sometimes they can get smeared to such an extent that you simply cannot do without a bathroom. Bathing is the best way to get rid of parasitic insects. It should be remembered that washing a sick animal is contraindicated - in this case, it may become infected.

It is recommended to buy the cat out before the show.

There are several ways of bathing

After filling the bathtub with warm water (about 40 ° C) to 7-10 cm, put a terry towel on the bottom. Standing on such a mat, she will feel more confident. So that the eyes do not get irritated by accidentally falling into them shampoo or soap suds, it is necessary to drop 1-2 eye drops into them immediately before the procedure.

For washing, use a powder or yolk shampoo, as it removes the fat layer from the epidermis less than other detergents. If you don't have shampoo, baby soap can be used. Ordinary toilet soap, soap powder and liquid shampoo for dogs are not suitable and even harmful to cats: they have a negative effect on the hair and epidermis, and are not easily washed off with water.

You can use another, safer (mainly for the owner) method of bathing. To do this, you need to take a sufficiently strong, but water-permeable bag, add a portion of shampoo to it and place the cat there, leaving only the head outside. Then submerge it halfway in warm water. The cat is washed through the bag, and rinsed in the same way as after bathing in the bath.

After bathing, it is best to wrap the animal in a large warm towel. By changing towels, handkerchiefs and brushes (you can also use a hairdryer), the animal's coat is brought to its usual attractive state.

After washing, the cat should be near a heat source for some time. When the coat is completely dry, the comb will complete the toilet, especially in long-haired animals.

It is necessary to remember and observe the following important points during the bathing procedure:

- frequent bathing should be avoided, since the natural protection of the skin and wool is reduced due to the removal of fat;

- an animal with a full stomach must not be put into water; at least 4 hours must pass from the time of eating;

- long-haired cats need to be combed well before the bath;

- in no case should the cat's head be submerged under water.

A complete bath ritual may not always be performed. A rag and warm water can help where the comb and brush can't reach. This form of "local washing" is applicable to animals that become contaminated in the free range or in their "toilet".

If resin, paint, asphalt and other adhesives have adhered to the feet, grease them with olive or sunflower oil and clean them completely with an old towel. Then wash with shampoo. Places burnt with chemicals must be thoroughly washed with water and treated with brilliant green.

Now about the eyes. When mucus accumulates in the corners of the eyes, as well as in order to prevent them, they are wiped with a cotton swab dipped in boiled water, a 2% solution of boric acid or in tea.

Chamomile infusion cannot be used. Frequent consumption of chamomile causes hair loss around the eyes.

You also can't press on the eye and rub it! In case of excessive lacrimation (except for breeds with a "Peking" nose), the cat should be shown to the veterinarian.

Prevention is the most important thing in dental care.

Brushing your teeth regularly would be helpful, but not feasible. To avoid calculus and gum inflammation, you need to pay attention to the type of feed and its variety. Animals that eat solid food avoid this problem. Especially tough meat encourages vigorous chewing movements, develops and improves the bite. During the change of teeth in kittens, you need to examine the oral cavity and, if necessary, help to remove milk teeth with a careful movement.

The ear of most cats reacts to the slightest mechanical stimulation. Therefore unnecessary manipulation of the ears is undesirable. But control is important. It is necessary to inspect the outside, as well as the inner cavity of the auricles, as far as the structure of the ear allows.

The interior of the auricle is pink and clean when healthy. There are only minor accumulations of earwax. In case of severe contamination and discharge, cotton swabs are used for cleaning. To prepare them yourself, you need to take a thin stick made of wood, or even better from a bendable artificial material with a rounded end. The cotton wool wrapped around it should stand out beyond the tip. Then it is dipped in vaseline or other non-irritating oil and squeezed lightly. Clean carefully and only use the outer part of the ear. Do not use water or other liquids. If you have antiseptic powder, it is useful to periodically sprinkle it on the outer part of the auricle as a prophylaxis against ticks.

The slightest signs of illness should be a reason for contacting a veterinarian.

The cat does not need to file and trim the claws. They are fine in a healthy animal. The cat “sharpens” its claws regularly, as they grow back. Considering this, it is advisable in the house to strengthen a board, towel or piece of carpet fabric stretched over a wooden base for her. Most cats quickly understand the purpose of such an object and begin to use it correctly.

Claws should be cut and filed only in the following cases:

- if the cat is forced to be motionless for a long time (when a plaster cast is applied to the paw, uncut claws can grow into the bandage);

- if the old animal does not have enough strength to take care of itself;

- if there is a kitten with too violent disposition in the litter - so that he does not damage the nipples of the nursing mother with his claws.

It is necessary to file the claws very carefully so as not to damage the zone of their growth (nail bed). If you do not have the necessary skill for this, it is better to contact your veterinarian.

It should be remembered that cats with sawn claws are not allowed to the exhibitions.
