Video: Why Are Some Aquarists Passionate About Treating Their Fish?
Almost all novice aquarists are "sick" with an irrepressible desire to treat their fish … What can you say in this regard? Of course, it's a pity to see ballroom and dying fish. For a person with a good heart, this is especially difficult. But here it is necessary to do everything that is within our capabilities, and not to take on what is beyond the scope of our knowledge.
Considering the fact that in ninety out of a hundred cases of disease and death of fish in the aquarium are not infectious diseases, but diseases caused by improper actions of the aquarist (improper maintenance and feeding), it is often sufficient to maintain healthy, stable conditions in the aquarium, the state of biological balance, observe the other rules mentioned above so that the fish do not feel oppressed, and their body finds the strength to resist the effects of infectious pathogens. The disease is easier to prevent than to cure. This rule fully applies when keeping fish in an aquarium. Of course, care must be taken, or more precisely, preventive measures.
The causative agents of infectious diseases enter the aquarium with soil, plants, water, live food, molluscs and new fish, if they are taken from a reservoir or aquarium that is unfavorable for this disease. All diseases that are contagious are found in natural water bodies, free-living fish are ill with them. The main task of the aquarist is to protect the aquarium from these diseases as much as possible. To do this, you must follow a number of preventive measures.
But even with the utmost care, it is impossible to completely secure your aquarium and avoid the occurrence of infectious diseases in it. Disease agents can be found in almost any aquarium and in the body of any fish. The only difference is that fish kept in good (optimal) conditions, receiving varied and full-fledged feeding, are much less likely to get sick than fish weakened, oppressed by poor conditions of keeping and feeding, and the presence of aggressive neighbors.

Unfortunately, the diagnosis of a contagious disease and treatment are available in most cases only to specialists, ichthyopathologists, veterinarians, and sometimes experienced aquarists. It is possible to identify many infectious diseases only in laboratories, by performing an autopsy of sick fish and examining their internal organs.
Taking up treatment without knowing the diagnosis, the name of the disease is simply pointless. True, only a small number of diseases can be accurately identified by external signs, and then cured. But such diseases are few. Therefore, disease prevention remains the main, and sometimes the only, condition for the health of your aquarium.
