Video: Guppy: Feeding
It is difficult to overestimate the importance of proper feeding of guppies for obtaining highly decorative offspring from them. Optimal water conditions, adherence to temperature and light conditions, of course, have a very significant effect on the content of fish, but their role in maintaining the high decorativeness of guppies is much less.
Pair of guppies
One of the defining provisions of proper fish feeding, which all guppists agree with, is the need to feed the fish at least three times a day, and preferably even more often. For a well-balanced diet, one meal is clearly not enough.
Guppies are almost omnivorous and not picky about food. Along with living organisms, they willingly eat finely cut meat, fillets of sea fish, squid, as well as dry and vegetable food, cereals. But it is possible to grow large beautiful guppies only when feeding it in sufficient quantities with full-fledged forages, periodically their diversity.

* Fish should not be overfed with live food, let alone dry, otherwise they get sick and stop multiplying. The main ones in the guppy's diet should be dominated by live food.
This is especially important in the first 3-7 days after birth. Conditions of keeping and feeding during this period should be optimal. The food should be varied and not too coarse and should be rotated regularly. The best live food is small bloodworms, daphnia, brine shrimp, although fish willingly eat cortetra, moina ("live bearer"), cyclops, tubifex (contains a lot of proteins, but few other necessary substances, and for pregnant females it should be excluded from the menu), fruit flies (especially wingless forms). It is often not recommended to give enchitreas (diluted on grated carrots): with constant feeding of them, obesity occurs in fish, and as a result, the ability to reproduce is lost.
Along with animal feed for older guppies, it is necessary to give plant feed in small quantities. It is best to accustom fish to them on fasting days. The size of the feed should be available to the fish.
In winter, when there is a problem with live food, fish can be fed frozen (daphnia, cyclops, bloodworms) and salted food (before use, it must be soaked in water, changing it several times). Additionally or temporarily, you can give finely chopped or scraped meat (whale, beef), liver, heart, fillets and small caviar of sea fish, lean fish meat (cod, macrorus, blue whiting), low-fat non-acidic cottage cheese, mild grated cheeses, omelet. From plant feeds, guppies should be given in small quantities, but regularly, boiled fresh or dried chopped lettuce, parsley, spinach, nettle leaves, seaweed, boiled with boiling water. Occasionally fish can be fed with white bread, biscuits, slightly boiled semolina, rolled oats.
Dry food (daphnia, gammarus, etc.) should be used only as an additional one, pre-mix it with trivitamin - oil solution A, D and E (2-3 drops on a matchbox of food) or fortified fish oil (1-2 drops). The feed is fed for 2-3 days.

Constant feeding with dry food does not make it possible to obtain bright coloration and especially good veil fins in juveniles; in addition, it leads to diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, and in adult fish causes infertility. The exception is dry balanced feed and special guppy feed of the type supplied by Tetra.
