Spring is a joyful period for every person. But hardly anyone is waiting for spring as the owners of reservoirs are waiting for it. The transition from winter to spring takes place in several stages, each of which can affect the well-being of your pond.

The ice has melted. Once the ice melts and the pond begins to warm up, you must clean out the bottom. This can be leaves, dirt, and other debris. It is a good time to plant new or old plants. Biological filtration will have to start almost from the very beginning, since the bacteria died during the winter. You can simply use one of the preparations containing the bacteria you need. The water temperature must be at least 10 ° C for bacteria to multiply. You can also install UV sterilizers before your pond is filled with algae.

Water 10 degrees Celsius… As the fish comes out of suspended animation, its physical activity increases significantly. This does not mean that you should immediately rush to feed the fish 2 times a day. Until the water warms up above 10 ° C, you should feed the fish very carefully, early in the day and in small portions. This will allow the fish to digest their food before it gets dark and cold again. This is a very difficult time for your pond dwellers. Fluctuations in temperature will affect all of its inhabitants. Fish will become more susceptible to various parasitic diseases due to reduced immunity. You will have to use bacterial drugs and ammonia binders until the biofiltration system gets back on its feet. It is also necessary to make a water change, making sure that the water with which you are going to change the water from the aquarium is free of chlorine and chloramines.

It's getting warmer. With warming and more sunlight, you should create a natural cover for your pond. Lilies are great. Don't be surprised if you hear "trills" in your pond at night. These are local toads trying to achieve reciprocity from the inhabitants of your reservoir. Thousands of tadpoles will appear soon, but you shouldn't despair - they will disappear in a few weeks. As soon as biological filtration is started and the plants begin to grow, it is the best time to add new fish to the pond. Remember that fish affects the biocycle and therefore you cannot add a lot of fish at once. A little hard work during this time of year will ensure you enjoy the rest of the summer.
