The Soviet heavy draft horse, or the Soviet heavy draft, is the breed of the largest Russian draft horses, approved as an independent one in 1952. When breeding the breed, the methods of absorption and reproductive crossing of local mares with producers of stepping working breeds (Brabancons, Percherons, Suffolcs and Ardens) were used.

The constitution of most of the breed is strong. Horses are calm and obedient. Soviet heavy trucks are the planned improvers of local horses in many regions of the country. Crossbreeds of the first and especially the second generations are distinguished by high working qualities. They remain fat when fed ad libitum with benign roughage during the stall period and grass in summer.
