Video: Breeding Horses Bonding
The purpose of appraisal is to determine the breeding value and purpose of horses based on their comprehensive assessment. When grading a horse is assessed by its origin and typicality, measurements, conformation, performance and quality of offspring. Each feature is evaluated on a 10-point system.
The first grading of horses is carried out at the age of 1.5 to 3.5 years according to the first three criteria (for classifying the elite of horses of thoroughbred riding and trotting breeds, starting from 2.5 years of age, an assessment for working capacity is also mandatory), the second grading - at the age of 3.5 to 7.5 years for four characteristics, the third grading - at the age of 7.5 years and older for all five characteristics, and the assessment of the quality of offspring is updated every three years as data accumulates.
The evaluated horses are divided into three classes: elite - the best horses in the breed, fully meeting the requirements for the breed; Class 1 - horses that basically meet the requirements for the breed; Grade 11 - the rest of the breed, which has breeding significance. Horses not included in these classes are considered indispensable.
For each class, on all grounds, certain points are established. Horses are assigned to a particular class in accordance with the minimum score for a particular attribute.
Horse rating scale
|Indicators||Elite||1 class||Class II|
|Origin and typicality||8||7||6||five||4||3|
If a horse on one characteristic does not get one point to the established minimum, then the missing point can be ignored and the horse can be attributed to a certain class with the specified amendment. Horses that do not meet the minimum Class II requirements are not subject to this amendment.
Within each class, breeding horses are divided into three categories.The first category includes horses whose score is higher on one trait or more, and on other traits meets the minimum requirements established for this class. The second category includes horses whose assessment in all respects meets the minimum requirements established for this class. The same category includes horses whose score on one attribute or more exceeds, and on one of the attributes - one point below the minimum requirements for the class. The third category includes breeding horses, the assessment of which meets the minimum requirements established for this class, and according to one of the characteristics - one point lower. The appraisal materials are drawn up in an act with the attachment of the appraisal results sheet, which are used in breeding work when determining the purpose of horses,their monetary value, records in the state books of breeding animals and the issuance of certificates for them.

Local horse breeds rating
Local horse breeds are rated in the autumn (September-October) by type and origin, measurements and live weight, conformation, milk production of mares, adaptive properties, and quality of offspring. Each feature is evaluated on a 10-point system.
The first grading and selection of horses into breeding groups (herds) is carried out at the age of 2.5 years for all indicators, except for milk yield and assessment for the quality of offspring. On newly organized farms, the first grading of horses is also carried out at an older age. The second appraisal with an assessment for all characteristics, including an assessment for milk production and offspring, is carried out at the age of 5.5 years.
The grading of older horses is specified according to the measures of accumulating data on the quality of the offspring.
