The use of the horse for transport and military purposes has accelerated the progress of mankind. And immediately there was a solid, as far as possible for each historical period, the science of the horse, including the rules of breeding, keeping, training, as well as the art of riding or equestrian sports.
In the biological sense, equestrian sport can be viewed as a mechanism for improving the species, as a factor in the selection of the most powerful and desirable individuals for a specific purpose. However, it captures the person involved in the horse, contributes to his physical and spiritual improvement, develops courage and sensitivity in him, gives delight the feeling of a powerful life-giving force.
In communicating with a horse, a person realizes his desire to fly, a horse is, as it were, a natural and enhanced continuation of it, an aggravated sense organ. An urbanized person is deprived of natural communication with nature, and one of the ways to preserve his essence is horse riding, equestrian sports.
The main feature of equestrian sports is that a living creature acts as a "sports equipment", and the success of an athlete equally depends on his own abilities and the abilities of a horse. Moreover, in addition to physical and volitional qualities, an athlete is required to have a special property known as "horse feeling". It is very important to be able to choose the right horse for a particular sport, as well as for a particular rider: it must match his character and temperament.
Equestrian sport is one of the most expensive sports. The costs consist of the cost of the horse itself (the price of a good horse is several tens of thousands of dollars), its feeding, maintenance, veterinary services, farrier services, equipment (saddle, headband, blankets, whip, etc. - for a riding horse; carriage, harness - for a harness horse), an athlete's costume (boots, breeches, tailcoat or coat, top hat or helmet, gloves, spurs, whip …). This also includes the salary of the trainer, rent of arena, playgrounds and various tracks equipped with obstacles, transportation of the horse to the competition site and other costs. And all this is multiplied by years of methodical, daily training.
The modern concept of equestrian sport includes all types of horse testing, clothed in a spectacular, gambling form and pursuing the achievement of any result, assessed according to certain rules. There are several groups in equestrian sports.
1. Classic equestrian sports included in the program of the Olympic Games: dressage or high school of riding, overcoming obstacles or show jumping, and triathlon. Equestrian races, carriage riding, and vaulting are also expected to be included in the Olympics program.
2. National equestrian games, widespread among many peoples, especially in the Caucasus, in Kazakhstan, in the republics of Central Asia. There are about 30 of them here. These are various types of horse riding, ball games (tskhen-burti, chovgan, equestrian polo), with a spear or dart (issindi, kabakhi), fighting for the carcass of a goat (as-steam), distance racing (alaman-baiga) other.

The Olympic Games originated in ancient Greece as festive events in honor of Zeus and have been held every four years from 776 BC. until 394 AD Equestrian competitions - chariot racing drawn by four horses, were first included in the program of the Olympics in 680 BC, and from 648 BC, horse races were also organized. Subsequently, the equestrian program expanded, it included figure riding, archery and javelin throwing from a horse - up to 24 different types of competitions at different times. Time and life have changed the forms and types of equestrian competitions- many disappeared, new ones appeared. The sequence of the appearance of the main types of equestrian sports is as follows: horse racing, horse hunting and games, then dressage, all-around and overcoming obstacles. At the revived Olympic Games, equestrian sport appeared for the first time in 1900 at the 11 Olympiad in Paris - overcoming obstacles, as well as long and high jumping. Then, after a 12-year break, in 1912 in Stockholm equestrian sport was represented by three types - dressage, triathlon and overcoming obstacles.
