Video: Never Hit Your Dog

The dog descended from the wolf many thousands of years ago, and man began to use it as a companion, hunting assistant or as a working animal. During this time, a lot of different breeds were bred to perform special tasks.
The dog is a pack animal, and each pack has a leader - sometimes called the alpha dog. When a puppy is separated from the litter (approximately 6-8 weeks old) and brought to a new home, he should perceive it as his new den and the owner as the new leader of the pack. Before appearing in your house, the puppy, while under the bitch, learned to understand the meaning of the sounds of different tones made by the mother. A number of sounds with different tonality, which have different semantic meanings, are called "paralanguage". It is in the form of a para-language that the dog perceives our words. The tone of the words spoken is more important than the human meaning embedded in them. Basically, there are three intonations that are used in communicating with a dog in the process of "home" education, the correction of behavioral problems and the development of basic obedience commands.
In the process of raising and training dogs, we must skillfully use and change intonation for executive commands, for expressing praise and corrective commands.
Pronunciation of executive commands should have an affirmative (imperative) tone. You tell the dog what it SHOULD do, not ask it to do something (i.e. the dog SHOULD come to you, MUST sit down, or MUST lie down)
Praise words are pronounced so that the dog feels joy when he hears them. The praise should be perceived by the dog as a positive reinforcement and facilitate the performance of the necessary actions (for example, "Good boy!", "Good!", "Good - Sit!", "Good - Come to me!").
Corrective tone (threatening intonation) is used to say "No!" … It should be sharp and low, like the growl of a bitch at puppies when they misbehave.
As previously stated, the overall effect of our dogs learning basic behavioral commands by the owner, as a pack leader, is that the dog's level of confidence and performance motivation increase. This allows you to control the dog in all possible situations. And for dogs, training is a great way to get the attention and love from the owner - it's very important for all dogs. Please remember that the dog is such a social animal that social interaction, praise and love are the most important things for them (refuting the idea of struggle for existence).
Keep in mind that by training your dog, you are not only teaching it to understand you, but you are also teaching it how to control you.
Praise helps the dog know what to do. Correction teaches the dog what not to do. Essentially intact, the correction is "negative incentives". In other words, these are things and events that the dog wants to avoid. By the way, when communicating with a puppy, there is usually no need for physical punishment or discipline. But the corrective action must be firm enough for the dog to avoid it or distract from unwanted behavior.
I am often referred to as the last resort. Owners of puppies or grown dogs complain about the same: “What should I do? I have tried every possible way to teach a dog to keep the house tidy (no matter what the problem is), but nothing worked! " Yes, they think they know everything! Perhaps, friends advised them to poke the puppy's nose at "this", "spank the dog with a newspaper" or "clap a newspaper." Unfortunately, this technique not only humiliates the dog but also destroys the owner's bond with the dog. And just this can lead to problems. And the way out? You need to contact specialists in time to quickly find the right solution.
To illustrate the basic principles of training, I usually use analogy to facilitate understanding of the patterns of behavior modification, the main of which is consistency. If you understand that dogs are not able to use logic and reason in a human way, then you will understand the difference between humans and dogs, That is, to teach a person much longer and more difficult … than a dog. So it is, teaching a child to potty is more difficult than teaching a dog to order.
Let's try to wean you from unwanted behavior, the kind of behavior that you really want to commit. Imagine that I put seven delicious dishes on the table. Imagine also that you have not eaten for a couple of days and are very hungry - that is, you have a very pronounced motivation. Naturally, you reach for the table, but every time you touch the table, you get an electric shock of such power that you fall to the floor. Now answer my question: how many times do you have to touch the table to know that you shouldn't? Think about this for a minute. Typically, responses speak of one or more touches, although sometimes someone states that they will try until they get food. But if the situation really interests you, you will use logic and start reasoning. Like that:the table has four sides … you can disconnect the wires there … and the food can be reached in a different way … but how many times can you be electrocuted? Chances are slim!
