Competently raised and skillfully trained pedigree dogs are necessary to meet the needs of the army, border and internal troops and various departments of the national economy. In this important matter, much depends on the correct comprehensive assessment of the breeding merits of the selected dogs for breeding and the determination of their class.

An amateur dog breeder should know the main criteria for a comprehensive assessment of pedigree dogs in terms of their service qualities, constitution, conformation, origin and offspring. All this as a whole is the content of the appraisal.

Breeding dogs include dogs that have received class at grading

Comprehensive comprehensive assessment (appraisal) of dogs allows selection of high-quality healthy livestock for the breed, capable of producing the same offspring. From this offspring, the best are again selected for the tribe, and so from generation to generation all positive qualities are maintained in the breed, which contributes to its improvement. Unsystematic, spontaneous breeding leads to the loss of special qualities by representatives of the breed.

Service dogs are known to be used for a variety of purposes. Therefore, when evaluating dogs selected for breeding, it is imperative to take into account the working qualities of the dog, which determine its value for the kind of service for which it is intended.

The lack of testing for working qualities that are inherited leads to the emergence of dogs with a weak type of VND, overly excitable, cowardly, difficult to train, with a reduced sense of smell, etc.

Performance grade. Evaluating a dog by its service qualities, it is important to determine the type of external behavior of the animal (roughly the type of IRR), the prevailing reaction of behavior and the state of the organs of smell, hearing, vision, the degree of training and compliance to learning (training), activity at work, physical endurance, the ability to quickly running.

The type of external behavior of the dog is essential. It is formed on the basis of the hereditary properties of the nervous system. This is a fusion of innate behavioral programs (complex unconditioned reflexes) and individual experience, a significant part of which is experience gained by imitating the actions of other adult dogs, as well as under the influence of external conditions of life and in the process of general and purposeful special training. Congenital reflexes are improved under the influence of the external environment and in close interaction with the development of conditioned reflexes.

From the existing four basic types of external behavior of dogs for breeding, first of all, moderately excitable and excitable types are selected. Less often, the best representatives of the sedentary calm type are selected. The passive-cowardly type of dogs is not allowed for breeding.

The predominant behavioral response also affects the performance of the dog. A pedigree dog must necessarily have a predominant defensive reaction in an active form with a sufficiently active manifestation of all other reflexes (reactions).

For a service dog, the state of the sense organs, primarily smell, hearing, and vision, with the help of which the animal can sense the presence of food, individuals of its own species, predatory animal, strangers, various smell and sound stimuli, see a moving person at a distance distance of 250-300 m, and when a criminal is chased by trained dogs, their visual perception increases to 500-700 m.

The high sensitivity of a dog's sense of smell is used to search for hidden things that have lagged behind the herd and lost animals, to pursue criminals by their scent tracks, etc. The acuity of the sense organs depends on hereditary inclinations and special exercises.

Dog training helps to reveal the properties of the senses and the nervous system. The faster and more perfectly the dog reacts to external stimuli, the sooner it will adapt and succumb to new, increasingly complex training requirements.

Only trained dogs with excellent service qualities, whose ancestors have been successfully used in the service in a number of generations, should be allowed for breeding.

Training animals from generation to generation, selection of the best help not only to identify, but also to develop, improve in the breed the qualities of working capacity that are necessary when using a dog for a specific specific job.
