Below is a list of what you may need to care for a dog:
- bowls - for water and food;
- stand for bowls;
- a bed (basket, box, sofa, container or cage for dogs) - for sleeping and resting the dog;
- mattress with removable covers;
- overalls - for walking (in dry weather - from cotton fabric, in wet weather - from waterproof fabric);
- blankets (for short-haired and short-cropped dogs) - for walking in cool weather;
Collar-parforce (with spikes)
- a cap or a cover on the ears (for long-eared dogs) - during feeding and transportation;
- collars and leashes - leather or cloth, matched to the size of the dog and suitable for the type of its coat;
- chain collar (only for dogs with short or close hair on the neck) - for training and shows:
- parforce collar (with spikes) - only for training large and naughty dogs;
- suede mitten - for shine, in dogs with short and straight adhering coat. Use the mitten only after the dog's coat has been washed or brushed and scrubbed (see below). The whole dog is “polished” from head to tip of tail and paws with a mitten in the direction of hair growth. The soft mitten does not electrify the coat, allows the hand to feel well the contours of the dog's body, all the curves and depressions, while providing massage;
- rubber and metal scrapers - for cleaning short-haired and straight-haired dogs. The rubber comb is more suitable for dogs with short, fine coats, while the metal comb is more suitable for dogs with longer, thicker and denser coats. The scrubber removes dandruff, dust and dead hairs well. The tool is held in the right hand, and after each movement on the dog's coat, the working surface is cleaned with a bristle brush held in the left hand;
Metal scraper
- natural bristle brush - for cleaning dogs with any type of coat. And for dogs with short or straight short hair, this is generally the main tool: brush all the hair in different directions with a brush, finally laying it in the direction of hair growth. For dogs with long hair, after a complete preliminary brushing, the upper layers of the coat can be finally laid in the direction in which they should lie;
- a massage brush with metal teeth on an elastic rubber pad - allows you to gently and effortlessly comb long and elongated hair (provided that it is well-groomed and without tangles). The massage brush is easy: it passes through the coat without pulling or pulling unnecessary hair, allows you to quickly correct the dog's "hair". At the same time, a massage is performed in which the skin is not scratched or injured;
- wire brush-slicker - allows you to finally check the condition of the dog's coat: it completely separates all the hairs and comb out the dead hair, pulling the coat to its full length. After combing with a slicker, the wool lies hair to hair; this tool is indispensable for preparing long-haired dogs for a haircut, as well as for combing dogs with pronounced shedding;
- a cutter - for removing tangles and combing heavily tangled hair in long-haired dogs. This tool must be used very carefully, as a last resort, and it is imperative to ensure that it does not touch the dog's skin or injure it. The tangles are cut with a cutter from the base of the hair to the ends, after which the tangled wool is easily removed and combed out, while there are no “holes” left in place of the tangles (as after cutting with scissors);
Stripping knife
- combs with metal teeth of a round cross-section with rounded ends - are necessary for sufficiently vigorous combing and detangling of the coat, especially in those areas where the coat has a tendency to felting. The length and frequency of the teeth are selected individually, taking into account the characteristics of the dog's coat. It is often necessary for one dog to have several combs - with more frequent and sparse teeth. Check the ends of the teeth - they should not scratch your hand. It is convenient to use a frequent comb to remove dying undercoat. especially during molting. The longer the dog's coat, the longer the comb's teeth should be and the less spaced they should be. Long hair is combed in layers - from bottom to top, each strand - starting from the ends, gradually moving towards the skin;
- knives for trimming (plucking) wool - there are different types and are mainly used to tidy up the ripened coarse wool of terriers and schnauzers, which does not shed by itself, as well as for combing the undercoat.
The tool is made according to the principle of a conventional knife, but with a short blade, which has teeth on the cutting part. The teeth can be of different heights and with a different gap between them. The trimming knife is selected based on the length, thickness and stiffness of the dog's hair. The principle of operation of such a knife is. that the hairs are pinched between the teeth in the gaps, do not break off or cut, but are completely pulled out of the dog's skin.
