Video: Salad For Domestic Cats
Who of us has not seen how in spring, summer or autumn our cats and dogs, walking on the street, from time to time graze on young grass or, worse, eat houseplants or flowers standing in a vase in an apartment.
It turned out that one of the necessary products, the benefits of which are often now being discussed and recently widely used in the diet of our pets, is grass, which can be grown from special seeds at home.
Feeding is an important factor in the life of cats and dogs. The nature of feeding primarily affects the digestive system associated with the processing and absorption of feed, health and the body as a whole. Diseases of the digestive system (stomatitis, gastritis, dyspepsia, etc.), metabolism (avitaminosis, osteodystrophy and others) most often occur due to improper feeding.
Improper feeding of a growing kitten or puppy negatively affects not only weight and height, but also worsens the constitution of animals. With improper nutrition, our pets grow flat, high-legged, with a spoiled back line, a sagging belly and a highly developed middle part of the body. Reproductive abilities of cats and dogs are also highly dependent on nutrition. Improper feeding of males and females negatively affects the number and quality of germ cells, embryonic development and offspring. An unbalanced diet reduces the ability to fertilize and often leads to the birth of weak, non-viable offspring.
A reasonable owner properly organizes the nutrition of cats and dogs, regulates the amount of food in accordance with their physiological needs. Feeding should be complete (i.e. taking into account the quality of the nutrients in the feed), balanced (i.e. taking into account the interaction of individual nutrients in the feed and the body) and rational (i.e. taking into account the correct use of feed resources when formulating rations). Both under and over nutrition of dogs and cats is harmful.
Cats and dogs are carnivores. However, as a result of long-term communication with a person, their body has adapted to eating and assimilating the products of his diet. In principle, cats and dogs are omnivorous. They can eat meat, fish, dairy, vegetable, grassy foods. Cats and dogs eat grass or houseplants from time to time. They get vitamins and minerals from them. It is known that in any ready-made food for cats and dogs there is very little leafy acid - one of the B vitamins, which is found naturally in grass.
In general, vitamins play an important role in carbohydrate and fat metabolism, amino acid metabolism, take part in enzyme systems and other processes necessary for the health and normal functioning of cats and dogs. Lack or complete absence of vitamins leads to vitamin deficiency - diseases of a non-infectious nature. With B-vitamin deficiency in cats and dogs, hair falls out, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, muscle weakness are observed, animals lose appetite, indigestion, muscle weakness, impaired coordination of movements appear, paralysis and convulsions occur. Deficiency of B vitamins causes pathological changes in the central nervous system, endocrine organs and skin in cats and dogs. This manifests itself in skin diseases: dermatitis, depigmentation and hair loss. The defeat of the gastrointestinal canal, severe diarrhea (sometimes bloody), convulsions, young growth slows down.Since the animal has an increased need for vitamins of this group, the owners must constantly ensure its sufficiency. Coping with this task is not difficult by regularly adding a small amount of freshly grown grass to your food. If, nevertheless, signs of the disease appear, then the dose is doubled.
And if we take into account that grassy food contains many other vitamins, carbohydrates, mineral elements - phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, iron, cobalt, zinc, manganese, etc., it becomes clear that grassy food is indispensable for health and normal life. cats and dogs.
Unfortunately, in the winter-spring period, when all the plants are under snow and our pets cannot regulate vitamin metabolism themselves, strong forms of vitamin deficiency appear.
The composition of diets and the organization of feeding of cats and dogs is of great importance, since the metabolism and energy, and consequently, the activity of the animal's body, changes depending on the food they consume.
It is necessary to match the dietary needs of cats and dogs for energy, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals and vitamins. The diet should be based on products suitable for consumption by animals - corresponding to their nature and taste. Food of plant origin in the specific gravity of the diet of cats and dogs according to the daily requirement should occupy 60-70%. It is necessary to use here and herbs of different types. They can be added to stews, soups with meat and other dishes, as well as given in their natural form.
In the summer, while not an absolute must, eating grown grass will not harm your cat. In the winter-spring period, when vitamin deficiency increases, it is imperative to buy a bag of special seeds and sow grass in the room. This will allow us to avoid various diseases and ailments of our pets, and the use of our crops will allow us to get grass free of chemicals, which will make it possible to avoid animal poisoning and provide a convenient source of vitamins for cats living in the city, especially for those who need to wean plants. But it is especially important to create a “indoor pasture” for those animals that are kept exclusively at home all year round and are deprived of the possibility of free walking to “natural pastures”.
In addition, cats suffering from indigestion can themselves eat a very large amount of grass, after which they will even vomit, that is, they themselves use the grass as a natural plant, as an irritant, with which they cause a nauseous reaction, and, by spitting up, cleanse the stomach from indigestible excess food. This is all natural, and sometimes even necessary for cats.
How to make homemade pasture? For example, you can dig up a sod with grass and place it in a flower pot, but the mixture of herbs is usually unusable in most cases. You can, of course, bring cats and cut grass, but it withers very quickly and cats become indifferent to it. It is better and easier to buy an eco-friendly special pet mix from farmers and use it according to their simple instructions. For example, what is yours truly. I sow the seeds on tea saucers with gauze, pour in some water and put them in a bright, warm place. As they grow to the required size, the cats themselves begin to eat it. I always have new portions on the "conveyor belt". Sowing is done every 10 days, and cats are provided with natural vitamins throughout the year.
