Like humans, many older cats suffer from cognitive decline. This syndrome is called senile dementia.
In the wild, cats rarely live long enough for this condition to manifest. Such animals simply will not be able to survive - the owners note that old cats are forgetful, can get lost, do not pay attention to potential danger. They have to be reminded that it's time to eat and not be allowed to stay outside in inclement weather.
Also, the skills of hygiene and cleanliness in the house are lost. Even in the absence of other hazards, the old cats left on the street would die, failing to meet their basic needs.

Scientists from various universities around the world studying cats have concluded that all of the above symptoms correspond to the feline form of Alzheimer's disease. Seals have been found on the outside of brain cells, similar to those found in people with senile dementia.
Researchers have identified a key protein that causes brain impairment similar to that seen in people with Alzheimer's. Thanks to the short lifespan of cats, scientists have the opportunity to observe the development of this disease and look for ways to combat it.
Cats do not live long, and effective nutrition and proper treatment should not be underestimated to prolong their life and improve its quality. Mental stimulation and companionship reduce the risk of developing dementia in both humans and cats.

The World Through The Eyes Of Cats (part 4)

Mainly, the manifestations of intelligence depend on the work of the sense organs and the motor abilities of the body (motor skills are the totality of the body's motor processes).
