In the UK, it has long been believed that if a black cat crosses your path or enters your home, it means good luck. This superstition has three primary sources.
The first sends us back to Ancient Egypt, where it was believed that the sacred cat overshadows the house in which it lives and whose owners take care of it with grace. The real boon, of course, was the reduction in the number of mice in this house. But, thanks to countless myths and legends, the positive role of the cat spread far beyond this reality and began to be viewed as something absolute. The inscriptions on ancient graves tell us that "the cat gives life, well-being and health, she does this every day and ensures a calm old age." A cat should be in every home. Along the thinnest threads, this ancient tradition was passed down from century to century, even when the Christian church persecuted cats, considering them the servants of the devil.
The second source comes from the Middle Ages, when the "cat-devil" was feared and hated. It was then that the belief arose: if a cat crossed your path and you were not subsequently harmed, then you are incredibly lucky. Hence the association between a cat and luck. If a cat comes to your house, then you, showing kindness and compassion for her, thereby please her master, that is, the devil, and protect yourself from his anger. Therefore, when a cat enters your home and finds a good welcome there, you get in return the luck and favor of Satan. Others may suffer from it, but not you.

The third source is more earthy. An old English proverb says: "If there is a black cat at home, it will not run out of lovers." Here the cat plays the role of a symbol of sex appeal. During estrus, she attracts a crowd of admiring cats, so the house in which the cat lives is considered a place where any female person will receive the attention of the same number of men.
In all these cases, the black color is considered especially happy, since it is associated with occult practice, however, on the other side of the Atlantic, in America, the opposite is true: there it is believed that a white cat brings good luck, and only troubles from a black one. This is because at the time of the pioneers, the first settlers, the black cat was associated with the devil so much that it unconditionally became the personification of evil and evil forces. Nobody wanted to deal with them, nobody even tried to pacify them. The white cat, in view of its clear contrast with the black one, was considered as the power of light opposed to darkness, and, thus, turned into a sign of good luck.
