After the end of the race, the horses are systematically trained. The workout is carried out daily for six days of the week; on the seventh day, the horses are allowed to rest with a lead or release into a levada or brew. For training and testing, it is more convenient to have a special track (elongated circle) 1000 m long and 10-12 m wide.
Throughout the training period, it is recommended to keep a training report card, to record the results of the horses' monthly weighing and all data on their condition (illness, lameness, etc.) in the log.
All horses scheduled for testing must be used for work on the farm for half a day every day before training begins. The speed, both at the trot and at the walk, begins to develop at low loads, then they are gradually increased without reducing the horse's speed.
The development of traction endurance, especially at a 100-meter distance in the final period before testing, should be carried out in a sled or skid device, when the angle of the shafts to the horizon is greater than in a wheeled carriage. At the same time, it is necessary to develop a calm, quieter step in the horse (about 1 m per second - 3.6 km per hour), taking into account the individual characteristics of the horse.

Special training for testing the maximum traction force is carried out 1-2 times a week in a skid device in the last month of the general preparatory training.
Horses of heavy draft breeds are tested for urgent delivery of cargo at a step, urgent delivery of cargo at a trot, traction endurance and maximum traction. Horses are 4 years old and older. Large and small heavy trucks are tested with the same load, but the test results are offset separately: for the group of large and for the group of small heavy trucks.

trot - tractive effort 50 kg, carts, cargo and rider - 1500 kg;
traction endurance (carried out in the skid device of A. Voeikov) - tractive effort of 300 kg, which corresponds approximately to a load of 9500 kg; maximum pulling force - tests are carried out in a skid device with an initial pulling force of 400 kg.
