Cats Laperm (Laperm Cat) - long-haired Rex breed of cats, the main distinguishing feature of which is the presence of a "curly coat". The impression is that the animal has received a good electric shock, or its hair has been finely wrapped. Representatives of the breed are affectionate, curious and active, excellent hunters. They are not "vociferous". Their coat requires regular grooming.

History of the Laperm breed
The first Laperm kitten was born in the early 1980s in the United States of America on the farm of Linda Koehl, whose main fortune in the future was not her farm, but unusual curly cats. The first one was born without hair, but with a camouflage tiger pattern and a long curly mustache. As they matured, the coat became thick and silky, over time it began to curl, which eventually became a distinctive breed feature.
A domestic rat-catcher became the mother of a brood of lairm, the father did not matter, after the first kittens were born there were others, all from different males. As Linda Koehl later found out, for her unusual appearance, the Laperm should be thanked for a new Rex mutation, different from those that occurred in the case of the Devonian and Cornish Rex breeds.
Subsequently, curly cats spread in Europe, came to Great Britain and Australia, where they took root and reproduce successfully. In 1992, the "curly girls" were brought to South Africa by the traveler Johan Laprecht, where they also took root. In South Africa, laperm is very popular. The first breed standard was written in 1997.
Appearance
Describing the appearance of the lapels, you should outline their fur coat in detail. The curls are curled in spirals and rings in the direction from ears to tail, behind the ears, tight hair rings stick out chaotically, as well as on the back. The coat of the laperm is very silky, there are both long-haired and short-haired individuals. Long-haired lapermas are actually semi-long, disheveled looking hair. The hairs should be neither thick nor heavy, so that the effect of matted hair does not occur. The feel of the coat may vary from cat to cat, and also depending on the color. The texture of the coat is individual for each laperm, it changes with age, varies depending on gender, in short-haired animals the hair is stronger and more elastic. Outwardly, the coat should look almost "sloppy". The toughest curls in the collar and at the base of the ears, the longest curls are in the “collar”, at the base of the ears and at the base of the tail. The coat can change in length and thickness (depending on the season and age) and can naturally hang down from the spine line.
The coat on short-haired lapers is short to medium in length. The tail is free of plume, although the hair may be wavy. The coat is elastic, light and airy. The texture can be harsher than the long-haired laperm. For the most part of the body, the fur is separated from the body in waves. A collar, curls and ear tassels are optional. The tail should resemble a bottle brush. The coat can naturally hang down from the spine line.
The weight of males of laperm reaches 6 kilograms, females - up to 3-4 kg. Their head is wedge-shaped, the muzzle is round, the nose is slightly snub and short, high cheekbones stand out. Ears set wide apart are large, slightly lowered. The almond-shaped eyes are large. The body is muscular and slender, of medium length. Laperm has a long tail.
There is no special color that would be a feature of the breed. The absence of a thin undercoat, and a rare shedding make laperm indispensable in families where there are people who are allergic to cat hair.
The nature and behavior of laperm
By nature, these cats are very friendly, ideal candidates for companions to an adult and as friends for a baby. Laperm are very loving, they need affection and often demand it, jumping on their hands or starting to rub against their owner. These cats are also friendly towards other pets, even dogs.
Laperm are extremely curious animals. In addition to the fact that they study the atmosphere of the house and the places where they are taken for a walk, these animals love to participate in the affairs of their owner, for example, by jumping at the mouse cursor or watching events on the TV screen. You should not leave Laperm alone for a long time, this is a companionable breed.
Representatives of this breed often break into a loud "meow" if something does not suit them or they want something, but most of the time the laperm purrs peacefully.
Laperm has a freedom-loving character, therefore it is better to keep them in a private house with their own yard. They also get used to the apartment, but walks should be regular.
Nutrition and care
Cats of this breed require little care, and then only before exhibitions, when their fur must be washed with shampoo and wiped dry. During the exhibition itself, it is enough to spray the lathers with water to achieve the splendor of the fur. A comb with rounded teeth is useful for combing out the wool of the laperm. Brush her cat daily to remove loose hairs and avoid tangles. During the first year of a kitten's life, fur changes can occur several times. This is absolutely normal for a laperm.
Particular attention should be paid to animal allergies due to flea attacks. The owner of the laperm should always keep drops from ectoparasites in the medicine cabinet. Also, lapermovs need to be bathed monthly to maintain a healthy appearance of the fur coat. The breed has no characteristic diseases, but do not forget to follow the vaccination schedule and regularly take the animal to the veterinarian for a preventive examination.
These cats are strictly forbidden to be grabbed by the sensitive scruff of the neck - even kittens.
Reproduction of laperm
For breeding, Laperm can be combined with domestic cats and with other representatives of this breed. Kittens are born both naked and with fur. The latter immediately go bald, and from the age of two weeks they begin to grow. Laperm litter consists of 1-8 kittens. A cat usually has two or three litters per year.
There is a hybrid of laperm and munchkin, the name of this breed is boredom. Since 2020, the breed will receive a closed status in all federations, and crossbreeding with other cat breeds to stabilize the phenotype will be prohibited.
Breed recognition
Today laperm is recognized and registered by FIFA, TICA, CFA and ACFA. As for the organizers of exhibition competitions, only the WCF recognizes the Laperm as champions at exhibitions, but the popularity of the breed is constantly growing.
