Sometimes the owners notice that their cat loves women and hates or is afraid of men. Because of which?

There are two factors at work. The first is the tonality of the human voice. The female voice, having a higher frequency, is much closer in sound to the voice of cats, which makes it more attractive to them. However, this explanation is not enough to understand the behavior of cats that run and hide when they hear a male approaching. This usually means that a man has caused trouble for the cat in the past. Cats have a long memory; and if they happen to experience pain at the hand of a man, they may hate everyone like him months, and sometimes years later.

From this we can conclude that men treat cats on average with greater cruelty than women. But this, in turn, does not imply that cats are able to distinguish between intentional cruelty and infliction of pain for their own good. The catch is that most veterinarians are men, and cats often can't forget how they were treated for a long time. The veterinarian is only trying to help the cat, but the animal is in no way able to connect the injection or the violence used during treatment with the subsequent recovery. The cat only sees that a man comes up to her and grabs her. And then something painful happens. So the next time, hearing a male voice or gait (and cats can quickly learn to associate a heavy male gait with a low male voice), the cat decides that she is in trouble again and quickly takes her legs away.

This behavior was in its purest form manifested by one cat, which was initially friendly towards people of both sexes. It was a stray cat who came to ask for food in the city garden. If she was given something tasty, she happily rubbed herself against the feet of new friends, making no distinction between men and women. One day, someone decided to put the cat in the house and turned to the veterinarian with a request to conduct a full medical examination of the animal. Having driven the cat into the garden shed, the veterinarian caught it and made the necessary vaccinations. Then the cat was put in a box and taken to a new owner, an elderly single woman. The cat gradually became friends with the old woman, was very affectionate, slept in her bed and everywhere followed the mistress, rubbing her head against her and jumping onto her lap. From a starving tramp, she turned into a contented pet. But the memories of how she was caught and stabbed remained, and even a year later, every time a man came into the house, the cat ran upstairs or huddled under the bed. She was convinced that it was the veterinarian who had come to torture her again. Her fear could not be overcome by any persuasion and affection of men. However, the cat met women who came to the house with pleasure, rubbed against their legs, purred, showing the same friendliness to them as to its new mistress. The cat distinguished men from women almost unmistakably. The only exception was the old man, who sat quietly and moved with difficulty. Kiska somehow managed to separate him from the younger veterinarian.

One of the most frustrating aspects of the veterinary surgeon's profession must be the inability to convince your patients that the doctor is on their side and works tirelessly to save the animals and restore their health. Kind people who pick up unfortunate creatures on the streets and from the few shelters we have for homeless animals should be ready for the actions of their pets described above. Do not blame yourself for the fact that a cat, under certain conditions, behaves towards some people with anger. At the same time, the poor thing is told by her past, about which the new owner knows very little, or even nothing at all. Such animals often have memories of the trauma they suffered. And these memories are the reason for their strange behavior. In such cases, special endurance is required, but there is hope that, getting used to a new home, the cat will become the most loving and devoted pet. She may even become overly attached to her savior and refuse to leave him alone. However, this is only a manifestation of her inner fear that she will be betrayed again. Cats sometimes find it difficult to understand people, and, like elephants, they never forget the pain they inflicted.
