Animal behavior experts have found that animals' sense of smell greatly affects their behavior. Experiments were carried out using synthetic pheromones in order to find out their effect on the behavior of animals. Pheromones are secreted by glands (including anal glands) and have been found in saliva, urine, and other secretions. Their purpose is to elicit specific responses (behavioral and emotional) including sexual behavior, aggression, fear, etc.
Olfactory information (smell) plays a much more important role in some animals than we might imagine; it is very important for cats too. If you have several cats living in your home, then you probably noticed that if one of them returns after visiting the vet, the other may meet her with aggressive hissing. This is because the cat has a different smell after the vet, and this is much more important to cats than the visual perception.
When cats scratch the surface of objects, they not only sharpen their claws, but also leave their scent on the objects. This scent causes them to periodically return to objects and scratch them in the same place, enhancing the scent.
A special organ, the Jacobson organ, plays an essential role in the olfactory connection in all animals. Located in the palate, Jacobson's organ consists of two fluid-filled sacs that connect to the nasal cavity through ducts. To facilitate the perception of pheromones, especially sexual odors, most animals raise their upper lip and open their mouth to increase the opening of the ducts that connect Jacobson's organ to the nasal cavity.
As we said above, special studies were carried out using various synthetic pheromones that can affect the behavior of various animals, incl. and cats. As a result, the following conclusions were obtained:
In cats, the use of pheromones is possible to eliminate behaviors such as marking their home territory with urine. Thus, the commercial product "Feliway - Pheromone for Cats" uses a synthetic analogue of the pheromone secreted by the facial glands of cats. This pheromone has a calming effect on animals. (You may have seen your cat rub its chin against furniture or a doorway; thus, it releases this pheromone onto the surface of the object.) If you use Feliway at home, you can significantly reduce the number of cat tags in your apartment. In addition, this drug has a good sedative effect when transporting a cat in a cage or finding it in an unfamiliar place.

Amphibians are quite calm animals. Their behavior cannot be compared to that of cobras or rattlesnakes. They can't stand on their hind legs and run on water like basilisks. They can't even hide in themselves like turtles. But they also have very interesting behavioral features
Even the most superficial observation of the behavior of dogs of various breeds makes us seriously think about its innateness, the genetic inheritance of certain traits, which are in no way connected with the conditions of keeping, or with the peculiarities of raising and raising this or that animal

However, in reality, everything is not as simple as it seems at first glance. How much the change of seasons affects aquarium animals depends on their natural habitat
Research into the olfactory orientation of animals has prompted the need to study nostril function in dogs. In the available literature, it was not possible to find a description of the morphological features of the initial section of the upper respiratory tract and the movement of air in them in dogs
