There are two ways of reproduction of aquarium plants - sexual, or seed, and asexual, or vegetative. Only some species bloom when kept in an aquarium, even less often fruits or seeds develop from flowers, from which new plants are formed in turn. These include aponogetones undulatus and crispus, barclay, ottelia. Echinodorus often develop vegetative shoots on the peduncle. Of course, waiting for the flowering of mosses, algae and ferns is pointless, because they do not have flowers. Most often, aquarists propagate plants vegetatively. Let's list the main methods.

Mustache reproduction. Typical for vallisneria, echinodorus tennelus, eleocharis. In this case, a mustache leaves the stem or rhizome, on which daughter plants are formed. As young bushes develop, the mustache continues to grow until the growth point is damaged.
Reproduction by root shoots. Layers appear on the rhizome, which are usually in the soil layer. At the end point of the cut, the main shoot is formed. In some species, after development or separation of the main shoot, new daughter plants are formed on the cut. Most Cryptocorynes multiply in this way.

Aponogeton madagascar (Aponogeton madagascariensis)
Reproduction from dormant buds. In this case, young plants appear directly on the rhizome, forming clumps. This is how some species of Cryptocoryne and Echinodorus, Barclai, Nymphea breed.
Reproduction by side shoots. They are formed in long-stemmed plants (pinnate, kabombs). To obtain new plants, it is enough to pinch off the shoot and dig in its lower part with one or two leaves. The shoots quickly form roots and begin to grow. To speed up the formation of side shoots, you can separate or pinch the top of the plant.
