The Italian heavy draft is the most popular draft horse in Italy. The appearance of the Italian heavy truck is very similar to the Breton, who greatly influenced its breeding. The history of the breed begins in 1860, when Depositto Cavalli Stalloni began breeding horses in Ferrara. At that time, the blood of Arabs, Hakne and thoroughbred horses was added to the Naples mares, as a result of which a light working horse appeared.

Over time, the need arose for a heavier agricultural and artillery horse, as a result of which the breeders began to pour in new blood, primarily of Boulogne. Later, in the twenties of the XX century, the infusion of blood of purebred Breton stallions led to the emergence of the breed, which is now called the Italian Draft.
