The Nigerian pony, or Bhirum pony, comes from the northern regions of Nigeria and is considered a descendant of the rare Moussean pony from Cameroon, which in turn is descended from the Barbary horse. Almost nothing is known about the breed itself.

Nigerian ponies are versatile and are used for light work in harness and under saddle. They have a large supply of vitality, they are hardy and calm, they have an obedient character. Perfectly adapted to harsh climatic conditions. These ponies are usually quiet (laugh a little).
