Description
Mantella Haraldmeyer was first discovered and described in 1981. The skin is smooth. The middle ear is distinctly expressed. The back is brown, with a dark "V" -shaped or triangular spot in the hind legs. The upper half of the iris is slightly pigmented. You can tell the sex of the mantell by the pale horseshoe-shaped pattern on the frog's throat. In males, the pattern extends to the back of the throat; in females, there is a white stripe instead of a horseshoe pattern.

Color
The hind legs are yellow-brown with indistinct stripes. The ventral surface of the tibia and tarsus are red interspersed. The front legs are colored light beige or light brown, while the hind legs are colored reddish brown or tan.
The size
Adult mantella grow up to 21-28 mm.
Vote
The males of the Haraldmeyer Mantella sing all day long by the water. The male's song consists of a series of very short clicks. The duration of such a click is about 20 milliseconds. Frequency range from 5-6 kHz.
Habitat
The rainforests of southern Madagascar. Can be found on the rocks.
Nutrition / food
Mantella Haraldmeyer is a day hunter who spends most of the day in search of food. It feeds exclusively on termites.
Behavior
Mantella Haraldmeyer leads a terrestrial secretive lifestyle. In open areas it hides under stones.
Social structure
Lives in small groups. There are more males than females in a 2-1: 1 ratio.
Reproduction
Reproduction does not take place in water (eggs are not laid in water). After mating, the female looks for a suitable nesting place (it should be wet). This can be moss, sponge, crevices in logs, the back of stones or bark. One female mantella lays up to 65 yellowish eggs (2.2 mm in diameter). The rains wash the eggs out of the nests and transfer them to shallow stagnant bodies of water or puddles.
Season / period of breeding
Reproduction begins with the onset of the rainy season (November-March).
Courtship ritual
Courtship takes place secretly, under bark or logs.
Development
Tadpoles are herbivores - they feed on algae and detritus. Up to 10-11 mm in size. After metamorphosis, the mantella begin to hunt insects (small aphids). The color of adolescents is the same as that of adults.
Population / conservation status
Mantella Haraldmeyer is an endangered species.
Recommended:
Yellow Mantella (Mantella Crocea)
The yellow mantella, or the sun mantella (Mantella crocea), is the smallest species of mantella that lives in central-eastern Madagascar in cool mountain forests. Frogs keep in fallen leaves, near water bodies. Day hunters, spending most of the day in search of food
Content Of The Bronze Mantella (Mantella Betsileo)
In captivity, the bronze mantella is secretive, preferring to hide under the bark of trees, in pebbles or fallen leaves. It reproduces with great difficulty. For its maintenance, you will need a terrarium or horizontal type vivarium. Due to their tiny size, these frogs can easily escape
Green Mantella (Mantella Viridis)
The green mantella , or midori-Ad-Gayeru (Japanese), is the largest of all types of mantella. Females are larger and thicker than males. Lives in the north of Madagascar in humid lowlands. The male's song consists of a series of very short clicks
Content Of Golden Mantella (Mantella Aurantiaca)
The Golden Mantella is an interesting, colorful and active day frog. It is easy to keep and reproduces well in captivity. It is not recommended to buy it as a gift for children, as it is moderately poisonous. The poison is not dangerous to humans, but it can cause local irritation
Contents Of The Haraldmeier Mantella (Mantella Haraldmeieri)
Mantella Haraldmeyer is rarely imported due to lack of demand. Yes, and when kept in captivity, there are great difficulties with its feeding, since this species feeds exclusively on termites. Most mantellas cannot stand high temperatures and are extremely demanding on cleanliness
